What Is Tef Theory?
Initially, Tef Theory (TT) was whatever I, Vern Crawford, said it was! I invented the term, and I continue to refine what it means. Tef Theory is my philosophical “map of reality”: what reality is, how it works, how best to live in it. But even though Tef Theory has been my creation, I can no longer claim it as mine alone, now that this website offers it to the world. I expect Tef Theory to change, with or without my continued fosterage. TT is like a note stuffed in a bottle and cast onto the waves. Where the sea takes it remains to be seen.
As the documents in this section show, Tef Theory is a theory about experience (for a time I even called it Experience Theory). Experience is the stuff of reality. TT asserts that experience is all “up front”; there is no hidden reality, no non-experience. This means that the totality of our experience, of reality, can be described as One, Whole, and All. I often refer to this exclusive, exhaustive totality as It. My mental model of It is Tef, acronym for Total Experiential Field. (My simplest symbol for It is a circle.) So, TT is my philosophical map of reality. Yet another perspective: Tef Theory is a model of the Processes and Products of Perception, a model of how experience comes and goes. This Tef Theory section of tefistry.com explores all of these topics.
Tef Theory runs counter to many of our usual assumptions and beliefs. Yet it seeks to remain true to our lived experience. I hope you will find it enlightening, stimulating, and useful in living your life.
